Magazine Specifications:

  • Deadline is every thursday at noon.
  • Magazine Trim Size: 8 1/8" (wide) x 10 3/8" (high).
  • Page has 5 columns - 1 3/8" wide; Depth of column is 9 3/8".
  • Live matter: 7 1/4" wide by 9 3/4" high.
  • Bleed sizes: Saddle stitched issues: trim size plus 1/8" on outside edges (8 1/4" wide x 11 1/8" high; spreads: 16 1/2" x 11 1/8"); Perfect Bound issues: trim size plus 1/8" each on outside and gutter edges (8 3/8" x 11 1/8"; spreads: 16 3/4" x 11 1/8"). All type and live matter for bleed pages must be kept at least 3/8" from full-page trim dimensions of 8 1/8" x 10 3/8" or spread 16 1/4" x 10 3/8". Half-page horz. bleed: provide at 8 1/4" (8 3/8" for perfect bound issues) x 5 5/8", trim size is 8 1/8" x 5 ½".
  • Publisher/printer will not accept responsibility when color keys rather than progressive proofs are submitted.

Digital Files Requirements:

Please ensure electronic files submitted meet the following requirements:

  • Labeling requirements for all disks/media submitted must include: Application/Platform, Name of Advertiser, Contact Person, Phone Number, Return Address, File Number/Name.
  • Applications accepted: MAC or PC Platforms; Quark XPress 6.01 or earlier; Adobe Photoshop; Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe PDF (high resolution); Macromedia Freehand, Coreldraw.
  • Make certain that page size is built at the size of the publication. Full page ads should be set up to correct trim size (8 1/8 x 10 3/8 inches). Allow 1/8 inch for bleed. Files with multiple pages should be created as a single layout file.
  • All fonts need to be included and placed in a separate folder; include both screen and printer fonts. Do not stylize fonts in the layout applications.
  • All images used need to be included and placed in a separate folder. Do not embed images.
  • All graphics must be in TIFF or EPS format, and provided on disk. All photos should be at 300 DPI. All bitmapped graphics (line art) should be at least 600 DPI. No RGB or JPEG compressed images. No LZW compression.
  • All colors should be assigned a CMYK value unless spot colors are being used for output.
  • Provide full-size laser or color proofs so film can be properly checked.
