HOW TO SAY I LOVE YOU -FOR MILLENNIALS-

What easy comes, easy goes, right? When it comes to relationships, millennials are all about taking things slow.

To other generations, this might seem like we don’t really want to commit, -which is not a bad thing- but no matter how you see yourself in the future, when it comes to love, you really can’t suppress or try to control your feelings. The writers of Rick ans Morty have a perfect definition of it:

“Listen Morty, I hate to break it to you, but what people call “love” is just a chemical reaction that compels animals to breed. It hits hard, Morty, then it slowly fades, leaving you stranded in a failing marriage”

Yup, there’s no denying love scares the s**t out of us. therefore, there are so many reasons why we have such a hard time saying “I love you”. First off, no one wants to be the first one to say it. What if you don’t get an “I love you too”? That would automatically make you look insane and your anxiety levels would skyrocket.

You could also be saying it “too soon”. BTW, someone should actually set a time frame to “too soon”. Like, really, when does it stop being too soon? Well, according to 2020 OK Cupid data on 6,000 people, 62% of people think you should say “I love you” “as soon as you feel it,” whereas 22% think you should wait “several months,” and 3% think you should wait “at least a year.” On average, research has found men take about three months to say “I love you” while women take about five months.

So, it just depends on how you view the term. Maybe you’d be better off dating someone that spoke Spanish -I actually HIGHLY suggest you do-, that way you can use “te quiero” before taking the next step of a “te amo”

But there’s also a universal language for millennials when it comes to expressing true modern love: sharing your Netflix password.

Christina Cauterucci (@c_cauterucci), writer for Slate says that “Sharing passwords to video-on-demand sites is a telling step in contemporary coupling — a contemporary version of leaving an extra toothbrush in your partner’s bathroom,” and I couldn’t agree more. There’s more to just “Netflix and Chill”. Something as private as a password is a real gesture of trust and generosity. It’s also a peek into your partner’s interests.

Would you really want to be with a guy that watches romcoms all day? I don’t think so! (Jk) So in conclusion, you probably don’t have to say “I love you” just have good taste on shows.
